Frequently asked questions about working with us

Do I need any qualification to become a support worker?

While a Diploma in Health and Social Care at level 2 or 3 would be a positive for anyone applying to work at KAK Healthcare Service as a support worker, it’s not essential – the right attitude and a willingness to work towards one is definitely welcome.

Do I have to have any experience to be support worker?

You don’t need any specific experience or qualifications to start work at KAK Healthcare Services as a Support Worker. What’s more important to us is that you are caring, enthusiastic, patient and a great communicator – and that you share our commitment to supporting people with difficulties to get the most out of life.

Can I work set hours?

It depends on the role, many of the people we support require round-the-clock attention and, as we take a person-centred approach to support, our rotas are based around their needs. Individual vacancies should indicate what the working hours will be for particular roles.

Do I have to work weekends/evenings/nights?

It depends on the job – please take a look at the Person Specification to check, and if still unsure, contact the person listed for enquiries on the vacancy in question.

What is personal care and will I have to do it?

Personal care means supporting someone with physical needs to perform tasks such as washing, toileting, cooking and feeding. Not all of our jobs include all of these tasks and where this is a requirement of the role, training will be provided to ensure you have the skills needed to perform this element of your role effectively. If you are concerned about supporting any aspect of personal care, please check the Job Description for any given vacancy, or contact the person listed for enquiries.

What are DBS checks, and why do you do them?

DBS stands for Disclosure and Barring Service. DBS checks help us make safer recruitment decisions and prevent unsuitable people from working with vulnerable groups. A DBS check will show information on certain convictions, cautions, warnings or reprimands. Having a criminal record will not necessarily mean you cannot work for us – we look at each case on an individual basis.

Will there be opportunities for overtimes/additional hours?

This will vary from service to service, but we do sometimes offer additional hours to cover leave or periods of sickness absence.

How much annual leave will I get?
